As a representational artist concentrating on 'everyday' subject matter, my work has always centred upon the perceptual – the figure, the portrait, the still-life and the landscape.
Most recently I have shifted focus without losing the impetus of my first intent, that is, representation by perceptual drawing and painting.
Following extensive experiment and study of drawing methodologies, I have for some time located much of my interest within a particular landscape, the landscape of Central and Northern Australia. This location has offered me an opportunity to explore new ideas and new ways of relating to perceptual space, pictorial structure and colour both local and emotional and most importantly – how collage might add to the 'abstractness' of a work without departing from that first intent.
The outcome of this work has informed other works, particularly figure painting in the fluid and rapid watercolour medium.
